Stage 1- Concept Design
This is the “brainstorming” stage where we explore all the feasible options based on the client’s design brief and the project in question further to an initial meeting. In addition, we like to create a “wildcard” option, if possible, which comfortably pushes the client’s expectations. We then articulate these options through drawings and plans, with sections and elevations as necessary, as well as concept images and mood boards.
Stage 2 - Concept Design - Developed
This is the “cherry picking” stage where the client chooses the elements they love from each concept, from which we then create a preferred developed option. From this high degree of certainty, we then develop the drawings and concept images and work as a team with specialist consultants, structural engineers and tradespeople to ensure the schemes are realistic and feasible. At the end of this stage, we would submit Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent applications.
Stage 3 - Detailed Design
This is the “detailing” stage where we take the concept developed option and consider every detail of the project, from the construction drawings for an extension to the exact placement of a cushion. We leave nothing to chance and ensure that the project can be costed and programmed to a 95 per cent certainty. This is when we issue the detailed drawings, specification and schedules to carefully selected contractors to tender, and fully cost the furniture and furnishings. This stage is about ensuring that every aspect of the project is “nailed down” before moving on to the construction stage.
Stage 4 - Construction & Fit Out
This is the “building” stage where all the hard work comes to fruition and the works start on site. It is important that the fabulous design is not “lost in translation” as the design moves from the drawing board to reality. To ensure this, we regularly make site visits to check and monitor the work, while constantly keeping the client up to date with the progress. We also administer the building contract between the client and the contractor, including the programme and the costs. The ultimate goal of this stage is the successful completion of the project, and our work does not stop until the building works have finished and we have fully dressed each room for that magazine walk-in feel.
Stage 5 - Snagging & Aftercare
This is the “smiling” stage where we ensure that the client is happy and still smiling with the finished project well after they have moved in. This stage may last for up to a year to ensure that every aspect of the project continues to work and perform as it should, and any problems are constructively and actively resolved.
